Caleb Hawkins Wrestling Tournament

Courtney Weston, Communications Director

On December 3rd, the West Brunswick Wrestling team hosted their 12th annual Caleb Hawkins Tournament. The tournament is near and dear to our team and alumni, as it is in remembrance of Caleb Hawkins. Caleb was a wrestler during his time, but unfortunately passed in 2009 in a fatal car accident. So every year the Trojan community comes together to remember Caleb’s life and do what he loved, wrestle.

The tournament was also attended by Lumberton High School, Cox Mill High School, North Brunswick High School, New Hanover High School, and others. This year our trojans placed 4th overall, for JV and Varsity. The team had a great day with 6 JV individual wins and 7 Varsity individual wins.

For JV,  Juniors: Cameron Lewis, 145; Noah Farris, 132; and Alex Domiguiez, 160; Freshman: Kevin Bland, 106; claimed 1st place for their respective weight classes. Sophomore, Alan Dominguiez, 170, claiming 3rd place along Sophomore, Gage Woods, 182, placing 2nd.

For Varsity, Juniors: Nicholas Chirco, 220; Dominic Grubb Jr., 145; and Luke Connick, 126; Sophomore, Cyrus Gregory, 152; placed second in their weight classes. Sophomore, Roy Nelson, 106 and Seniors Oscar Mendoza, 160, and Wyatt Monster, 195 claimed 3rd place.

So far, the season has been great for the team coming in 1st in their tournaments at West Carteret and Pender High School. In dual matches, the team has also won against Pender County High School, Ashley High School, Hoggard High School and West Carteret High School. The season is still young and we can’t wait to see what it has in store for our team.
