“There is fate, though,” he said. “There is you and me, brought together at this one time in this one place, out of all the millions of years and infinite miles of space in the universe. Do you believe in that?”

“Yes,” I said softly. “I do.”

Childhood friends to lovers is always a fan favorite, but sprinkle in a little enemies to lovers with a side of forbidden romance and you’ve got the love triangle of the century.

Anna and Leo have been inseparable since birth, totally platonic besties their entire lives. Things change drastically when they enter their first year together at Kingsmakers, an elite college for children of the Mafia’s finest. They hit another snag in the road when Dean, Leo’s cousin and self-proclaimed archenemy, sets his sights on Anna as well. Navigating your first year of college is hard enough, but when you add in decade-long mafia feuds and lessons in torture techniques it becomes deadly.

The Heir is the first book in the Kingsmakers series, a spinoff of the Brutal Birthright series (also a must-read), which follows the children of the core group in the original series. I rate this book a 5/5 and highly recommend it if you just love dark romance like me, or if you’re looking for a starting point.
