Painted vs. Polished

In the truck community, there are many different modifications and/ or accessories you can do to your vehicle to make it look like your own. One of the easiest and most common modifications are new rims for your ride. There are so many different brands, styles and finishes to purchase to make your vehicle to help make it exemplified you. In the wheel world, the most common types are polished or plated wheels.

Plated wheels are made from cast aluminium which is aluminium heated up into a liquid and then is placed into a mold. Then these unpolished wheels, are either plated with PVD chrome and or painted into any colour you would like. These wheels are a lot cheaper to purchase than polished wheels due to how they are mass produced due to the convenience of making them.

Polished wheels are made to order. So if an individual would like to purchase a set of polished wheels, there is a 6-8 week waiting period to purchase them. This is because these wheel are very time consuming and expensive to make. To make these, a company takes a block of aluminium and places it into a CNC machine, a machine that carves out what you would like onto a piece of metal. Then the CNC machine takes around 5 hours per wheel to carve out the exact dimensions and style you would like your wheel to be. These wheels are highly coveted in the truck world due to their custombility due to there being infinite possibilities of styles to get. However, these wheels require a lot of work to keep them looking new and clean due to them being raw aluminum. You have to use a metal cleaner on them around once every week to keep them look well maintained.

Wheels are made to exemplify you and your vehicle. There are to many price points and styles to choose from that the possibilities are almost infinite. So, if you want your truck to look like you, take your time and look around to what fits you and your wallet the best.
