The Carolina Soul Festival nourished and rejuvenated the minds of many visitors in early September through a collection of well-being based vendors and healthy exercises.

According to the festival’s website, the mission of the Carolina Soul Festival is to encourage a culture of wellness and respect for the earth in our community through an awareness of health, nutrition, fitness, relaxation, cultural arts, music and mental attitudes. The festival was run by Nancy Shanea Smith, who also created the nonprofit Community Movement Alliance.

“We teach yoga, dance and Tai Chi in our local elementary schools.” Smith said. “So I started the festival to bring awareness to our nonprofit and our mission, but to bring a group of health-conscious, like-minded individuals together”.

The festival offered many choices from vendors such as clothing, necklaces, organic soap and various handmade items. Nancy says she plans on continuing this festival every year.

The festival was an exhilarating experience and allowed you to walk away feeling refreshed and motivated; a must for health-conscious individuals.

Upcoming in October, the thirty-seventh annual Oyster Festival will be presented by Novant Health and hosted by Brunswick Co Chamber of Commerce.

This festival is an exciting experience for people of every age, as there will be multiple food vendors for every taste, live music, competitions, shopping options and a children’s area. The Oyster Festival will be on Oct. 21-22 this year, with an admission fee of five dollars for the day.
