Is Science Proving The Bible to Be True?
Dec 2, 2021
Written between 1200 and 165 AD, the Bible is the primary religious text for the Christian faith, and is the most purchased book world-wide, including poetry, songs, stories, letters, and history. In the Bible, there are many references to science that many seem to look past, surprising many who may believe the Bible is simply a religious text and showing them the scientific and literary merit of the book.
The Bible Reveals the Earth is Round
The scripture says, “It is He that sits upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22). In Hebrew, the word “circle” is translated to chuwg, which is translated to “circuit” or “compass.” This meaning indicates that something is round or spherical; It wasn’t until about 300 years later, according to the World History Encyclopedia, Aristotle suggested the earth as a sphere. About 2,000 years after Aristotle’s suggestion, scientists believed the earth was flat. The History Channel writes that Christopher Columbus was inspired by the scripture in Isaiah and is the reason he decided to sail around the world.
Earth’s Free-float in Space
The Bible first mentioned earth’s free float in space: “He hangs the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7). The National Museum of Natural History shows that there was once a time where it was believed the earth rested on the back of a large animal, but science didn’t come to discover this was not true until 1650.
The Water Cycle
The Mississippi River is just one example of the hydraulic cycle being the estimated amount, according to Nasa’s Earth Observatory, 518 billion gallons of water every 24 hours is dumped into the Gulf of Mexico, and we wonder where all the water goes: “All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come there, they return again” (Ecclesiastes 1:7). The scriptures spoke very clearly of the water cycle before Pierre Perrault, Edme Mariotte, Edmund Hally, and others discovered it, written in National Geographic. The water cycle is also referenced in the following scriptures: “If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth” (Ecclesiastes 11:3), and Amos 9:6: “He calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the face of the earth.”
Air Mass
According to the Science History website, before scientists discovered that water and air had weight, in the 16th century, the Bible told us it did: “To establish a weight for the wind, And apportion the waters by measure” (Job 28:25). The percentage of water on the earth is so much more than land, and this is a positive effect for the sun and moon’s gravity to have a perfect balance.
