Most people hate when it starts to get cold outside, but for some, it means the sound of dribbling up and down the court–it means basketball season is here as well as a fresh new start for our players. Last year, our boys went to the second round of the playoffs and had an exciting season for the immense crowd that supported our Trojans. It’s a new year with a new coach, and we’re all eager for the results. After interviewing this season’s players, it seems as though fans have nothing to be worried about.

“I think we have a lot of talent, and with the new coach and the new system that he’s running, I feel like we’re going to have a really good season.” said the shooting guard,  Amari Singleton.

This year’s new men’s coach, Ty Johnson, was the 2015-16 women’s varsity coach; he spent the 2016-17 season coaching a women’s college team before returning to West.

“Coach Johnson works us really hard in the weight room and on the court. I think we’ll definitely be able to keep up with everyone else in the conference and hopefully come out on top,” said the power forward, TJ Scinto. 

With the new additions to the team, some people have expressed curiosity about how far the team will go this season.

“I feel like we’re going to do pretty good compared to last year. I feel like we’re going to go farther in the playoffs too.” said Jvian McCray who played on the varsity team last year and plays center. 

“Compared to last year, I think our chemistry on this team is way better than what it used to be, and that plays a big role in winning games. We’re definitely one of the more dominant teams in the conference this year,” said Scinto.
