Is Marvel’s Phase Four a Flop?
Dec 12, 2022
Change is always hard, but long-standing Marvel fans are taking recent changes to heart. All of the movies in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) are split into groups or “phases,” that separate the storylines as well as give the final goodbye to well-loved characters. With the recent release of Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” fans are feeling extremely underwhelmed about the future of the MCU.
Phase Four is over, now what?
The shift from the Infinity saga to the Multiverse saga has left fans unable to find the same thrill they had before. Marvel spent 22 movies leading up to the final stand, “Avengers: Endgame”, and now there is no clear goal in the distance. In phases 1-3, each movie had a post-credit clip that featured a common theme, the infinity stones. The Multiverse saga does have a theme, but it hasn’t been introduced yet.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” will introduce the newest major villain in the MCU, Kang the Conqueror. Little is known about Kang currently in the MCU, but we do know he is trapped in the Quantum Realm. How much do we want to bet our ant friend sets him free?
I personally know where the MCU is headed, but I can see how it could be confusing. I’ve been watching these movies for as long as I can remember, and for a while, the endgame wasn’t always clear. Marvel needs to be given a chance to rework things with new characters and storylines. Things aren’t always going to be exactly the same, and change is often for the best.
The cultural reset of the MCU begins February 17th, 2023. I can’t wait to see how things play.
