Dylan Parker is a new Spanish teacher, with an exciting past and a fun life. Parker is originally from Huntington, West Virginia where he also attended high school. After high school, Parker went to college at Muskingum University in Concord, Ohio.
Before coming to West, Parker lived in Spain for two years where he taught English. Parker really enjoyed his time in Spain and would love to return to visit someday.
“While in Spain I was on a Spanish blind date reality TV show,” said Parker.
Parker made lots of memories in Spain and loved teaching English to the students. Teaching in Spain is very different from teaching here in America.
Being a new teacher here comes with meeting new people; there are over 1,500 students at West and counting. Parker is part of the new seventeen teachers this year.
“Being a new teacher at West has been very nice,” said Parker. “Everyone has been very welcoming.”
Being bilingual can be very helpful in your day-to-day life. According to MyClassTracks, only 13.4% of America’s population is bilingual.
“I wanted to become a Spanish teacher because the world is a big place,” said Parker “Speaking two languages opens up a lot of opportunities for everyone.”
Being a teacher comes with many responsibilities and challenges.
“The students give me motivation,” said Parker. “I love seeing you guys succeed.”
