It’s not fantasy, JV football ties their wins from last season

The Trojans JV football team is starting off their season on a high note by tieing the amount of wins they had last season within the first 4 games.

Why it matters:

The Junior Varsity program is for younger highschool players to develop and enhance their skills so they can be good enough to play at the Varsity level.  Creating a good JV program will lead to having a successful Varsity team when they get there.

Zoom-in:

In the 2022-23 football season the JV team had a total of two wins, and the year before that they had a total of three wins. Within those two years their win percentage has decreased, but already after the first 4 games of the 23-24 season the team has already matched the amount of wins that they had last season and are on a good path for increasing their win percentage this year.

What they’re saying:

“I think our team will be a lot better than we were last year,” said sophomore player Nick Graham. “The atmosphere and chemistry flows a lot better than it did last year. Also the coaches are much more involved.”

The bottom line:

The football coaches are continuing to try and build a program, which takes time so it may be slow but the young trojans are on the right path for success in their future.

Brookyln Coble is a 16 year old junior who was born in Burlington, North Carolina. Moving here in her 6th grade year. This is Coble’s second year as a staff of the West Wind and she has thoroughly enjoyed learning more about writing but also getting to work in the social media aspect of it. This year Cobles goal is to strengthen her writing abilities, and prepare herself as she hopes to be able to attend the University of North Carolina.  When asked about her reasoning for joining the West Wind, Coble shared that the TikTok page's “Late Night” video is what first drew her in but she soon learned that she enjoyed the people and community created just as much.  “I think everybody in our class is nice,” said Coble. “ Everyone talks to each other, and Mrs Saunders is nice.” Now Coble plays 4 different sports, including: basketball, soccer, volleyball, and track. When asking Coble about her greatest accomplishment she exclaimed saying   “I’ve been playing varsity sports my whole high school career,” said Coble. “It has really made my experience in high school very memorable but it is tiring.”
