Is Cross Country different from Track and Field?
Cross Country: Cross country is a very hard sport to play, mainly because of the long distance running and the heat that comes with the season. Even though they are in two different seasons people don’t realize how different track and field is from cross country.
The Intrigue: Led by cross country coach Jimmy Caraway, the team has already kicked off their season with a broken record from sophomore Bryson Hollis, 16:30. Hollis is also on the track team and thinks cross country is much harder.
- “Cross Country is much harder than track,” said Hollis. “It’s a much longer distance and we are not on a track.”
- According to WBHS Athletics, the Cross Country team won the 3A MEC Conference Championship for boys.
- People usually join cross country to help them become fit, also its an alternative for their favorite sport.
The Difference: The difference between cross country is that it’s outdoors on a trail not a set path, and it is usually a 5k race. Track and field however has different events like sprints, hurdles, relays, long jump, shot put and even more.
