Musical Movies: Review

Musical+Movies%3A+Review

Through the years, musicals and plays have been the main entertainment before TV. So as TV grew, these musicals were still on Broadway but also turned into film adaptations. These movie adaptations are some of the biggest movies in the world, including “Grease” and “Hairspray.” So I always loved musicals and watched some of the movies, and here are my ratings.

  1. Into the Woods- 9/10

This movie had a very interesting plot line. I found it very intriguing, with different stories going on at the same time. Also, all the stories are intertwined with each other, all while the baker and his wife are on a mission for the witch so they can break a curse and get a baby.

2.West Side Story- 8/10

I actually really enjoyed this movie with the love story, the music, and so much more.

It absolutely captivated me the whole time.

3.Mamma Mia- 7.5/10

I absolutely loved this movie. It was one of my favorites, with some of the classic songs that everyone knows and loves. This is one that I will definitely watch on repeat.

4.Hairspray- 7/10

Hairspray is such a classic, and I loved it so much. I felt the story was good and kept me interested the whole time. Although this one is a very popular musical movie adaptation, I did prefer the others over this one.

5.Sound of Music- 10/10

Sound of Music is an amazing classic, that in my opinion was one of the best. I felt this had one of the best plotlines with the war and the way the scenery and the music all intertwined with each other.

Chayton Cheers, Staff Writer
Chayton Cheers is a 15-year-old sophomore who wanted to expand his writing and people skills, which ultimately led him to join the West Wind this year. Cheers was born in Loris, South Carolina but has become a local to Brunswick County, being raised in Ocean Isle Beach all his life. “I like to write,” said Cheers. “I think that the West Wind is going to improve my writing and people skills.” When Cheers is not listening to Taylor Swift or reading you can often find him working at The Daily Scoop on Main, doing his schoolwork, or hanging out with his family. Cheers values his education and is striving for big things. Unsure of what he wants to do with his future, Cheers does know he wants it to be writing-centered, either writing for a newspaper or becoming a novelist. Cheers wants to either attend West Virginia University, Appalachian State, or the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. “I honestly don't know what I want to do,” said Cheers. “I want to go wherever life takes me.”
