On Monday, Dec 2, 2024, the West Brunswick Varsity Girls Basketball team won their game against Socastee High School with a final score of 41-26.
Lights go out as the starters come walking out with the fans cheering. Senior Saniya Stanley wins the tip-off. Getting the first possession of the ball is crucial in order to start off hot. Even though the first shot missed, our defense got the ball back, and Senior Jahyra Mastry splashes an open three.
The first quarter was a slow start, with only scoring 10 points and holding the other team to 4. Start of the second, our offense was strong, but our defense was strong. Scoring 11 and holding Socastee to only score 2 more points. Throughout the last couple of minutes of the quarter, defense began to die down. Allowing Socastee to score 6 as we only score 4 more.
As halftime begins, girls go to the locker room for Coach Everette to break down what they did right or wrong. Players come back onto the court to begin the third quarter. Most of the quarter was back and forth with the Trojans scoring more. Ending with a score of 36-20, the awaiting fourth quarter begins to start.
Only keeping Socastee to 6 points in the fourth quarter, our West Brunswick lady Trojans came out on top with the 41-26 victory.
Mastry was the star player of the game, as she made 5 threes and scored a total of 19 points. Even though Coble only scored 2 points, she was still dropping dimes to her teammates. With a total of 8 assists and 7 rebounds, Coble was one of the most hard-working players on the court.
