On February 14th, 2025 love filled the air as it was Valentine’s Day at West Brunswick with a fun spirit day that students could express their status with the clothes they were wearing.
Wearing red indicates that you were taken, blue indicates that things are “complicated,” and black is to show if you were single.
“I wore red today.” said sophomore Connor Ruane. “Because I’m taken.”
Many people, if they weren’t following the theme, could be found in other Valentine’s Day colors like pink, and cute Valentine’s Day shirts. The theme was voted and picked out by Ms. Morse’s leadership class.
“I’m in leadership,” said sophomore Aubrey Brown. “Ms. Morse and some of the students came up with today’s theme”
Many classrooms and halls were decorated in hearts, or colors of red and pink such as the 700 halls with a huge Christmas tree that had heart ornaments.
Another exciting thing going on for this week of love was Key Club selling and making Valentine grams. For a dollar, you could send someone of your choice a few Hershey kisses and a small heart-shaped balloon. For five dollars, you could send a small stuffed animal, a balloon, and Hershey’s Kisses. Students loved this and it was a good way to express your love or care for friends, teachers, or a partner since flowers and gifts cannot be directly delivered to the school.
The most seen colors were red, white, and many shades of pink. Even if students aren’t in a relationship, they still wear red because many thought it was a symbol of Valentine’s Day and the traditional color.
Another common sight was gift bags or baskets and candy that were brought to school by students to give out. Many of the gift baskets had chocolates, flowers, stuffed animals, cards, and more in them.
Teachers also could have incorporated Valentine’s Day themes into their lessons or even have Valentine’s Day activities that students could complete. They could possibly even hand out sweet treats like little packs of candy.
Overall, the Status Spirit Day was a big success and a fun holiday to celebrate here at West Brunswick.
