On Thursday, February 16, At 6:00 the gym was filled with excitement as the crowds of people came rushing in for the Women’s Varsity game against their biggest rivals, the South Brunswick Cougars. This would be a big game for West because it was Senior night, so they made sure to give it their all in the game. The crowd began to quiet down as West and South made their way onto the court getting ready for the game to begin.
The teams were lined up and getting hyped for the tip off to start, and once the ball was launched into the air, the sound of the sneakers squeaking on the court meant that the first quarter had begun. Starting the game with a great defense, with Senior Brooklyn Colbe running up and down the court making sure South would not be sourcing any points against the Lady Trojans, but by the end of the quarter South had 14 points, with West right behind them with 12 points.
Once the second quarter started, it was already a bad sign for West because South was running all over them. The Lady Trojans had given it their best this quarter with only scoring 8 points, while South had sourced 18 and was in the lead with 32 points. We were still down by 20 points, but even with us behind, West will not let South get under their skin.
During halftime the seats started to become empty, as the crowds of people went out to get food and drinks during the break. The Lady Trojans got to relax and go over their strategies and best defenses to use against South during the last two quarters. With a minute left to go, the seats had become full again and the fans were getting hyped for the third quarter.
Once both teams got back from halftime, they headed back to the court starting the third quarter. West was ready to get back out and win, with both teams going back and back down the court scoring points, with the student section starting to get rowdy after each basket with each person dressed down in PJs for senior night. When the buzzer went off the third quarter was already over, with both teams only scoring 8 points and ending with 40-28.
The Fourth Quarter began with South getting procession of the ball and scoring the first points of the quarter. West had made the final time out by the end of the game, motivating each other to get back out there and do their best. In spite of West giving it their best in the end, they still lost the game with 43 points, while South had 57,but the Lady Trojans never gave up and played a good game against South in the end.
The Lady Trojans might have lost in the end, but each member on the team did their very best during the game. One of the most noticeable players throughout the night had to have been senior Saniya Stanley. During the game she had scored a total of 16 points, and made 6 field goals with the help of her team.
