On Tuesday, February 25th the varsity baseball team had their first home game of the season against Wilmington Christian Academy. It was a cold first home game but that didn’t stop the Trojans from getting their win of 2-0.
Senior Garret Powell Started off the game throwing many great pitches leading to many stick outs for the opposing team. Luka DeRicco also had significant contributions to the game connecting well with what was thrown at him as first baseman. Ty Walker had a great as well catching pop-flies in the outfield every chance he got.
“I think we had a great first home game,” said junior Nate Fish. “There is still a lot to improve on but as the season goes on I think those improvements will be seen.”
Baseball can be a very mentally tough game and if you and your team aren’t in sync things can become challenging. Lucky for West the team is filled with predominantly seniors and juniors aside from one sophomore, Josiah Bortan. This can be a great help when on the pitch being most of these boys have been playing together their entire high school career, most even longer then just that.
The team had a great home opener and we wish them the best of luck as they continue to knock it out of the park the rest of this season.
