Prom weekend is always an exciting time for high school students, and each year, prom itself has its own trends and styles. As students prepare for prom night, planning can be fun but also stressful. Whether this is your first time going or you have gone before, there are always things to learn and get ready for.
“The only dress that should be worn is a long dress,” said junior Sophie Erwin. “Shorter ones are ugly and meant for homecoming, not prom.”
Finding the right outfit is the first step to prom. Starting early can avoid the stress of the last minute rush when everyone else is looking for a dress. At that time, it’s unlikely to find the color you want, or a dress in your size. Most people think that long dresses are the best thing to wear for prom, but it’s okay to do what you feel most comfortable in. It’s also essential to look at the prom theme and try to match it.
“I feel like the most important part of your whole outfit is your hair and makeup,” said junior Tess Caron. “No matter how ugly your dress is, if your hair and makeup look good, it will cancel out the ugly dress.”
Booking a hair and makeup appointment in advance can help you avoid the stress of having to do it yourself, especially not having it turn out how you want. Hair and makeup can be crucial to making or breaking your outfit. Thinking about the hairstyle that will compliment the dress and yourself will always be a good idea.
“I feel like people don’t even really go to prom for prom, it’s for the pictures before and the parties after,” said Caron.
Lastly, don’t forget the fun after, many people host parties for after prom. This is to keep the fun going even after you leave. Make sure to keep safety as your top priority and have a designated driver for after the party.
“Prom is such a fun time especially since you are only supposed to go for 2 years, I feel like we need to realize it’s only a one time thing and we should go to it and enjoy it” said Erwin.
