Prom is one of the year’s most anticipated events for high schoolers. It’s a night filled with dressing up, taking pictures, hanging out with friends, and, most importantly, creating memories that will last a lifetime. However, through all the excitement, it’s important to prioritize safety. With so much happening, it’s good to have a backup plan in case anything goes wrong. Having a safe place to stay, a responsible driver, and avoiding risky situations can make all the difference on prom night.
“If you feel unsafe, just grab your friends and leave together,” said senior Emma Yando. “You should never leave anyone behind.”
Driving is one of the biggest safety concerns on prom night. Whether you’re the one driving or riding with friends, it’s important to stay sober and alert for anything that could happen. Getting into a car with someone who is under the influence is never worth the risk; it only takes one bad decision for everything to go wrong. If something feels off, it’s better to find a safer way home than to take any chances.
“Don’t partake in anything that might impair your reflexes or judgment,” said Lyn Fletcher. “You don’t want to hurt yourself or someone else.”
Many students attend parties after big events like prom, and while they can be enjoyable, it’s key to make smart choices. Always stick with your friends and agree to look out for each other. Never feel pressured to do something just because everyone else is; you should be the one in control. Enjoy the night without feeling uncomfortable.
“Every time you drive to a new place, you should inform your parents,” said senior Olivia Abbott. “Just in case something happens, they will know where you are.”
At the end of the day, prom is about making memories with your friends. Always prioritize looking out for yourself and those you’re with. No matter what happens, getting home safely is the most important thing. Make prom memorable for all the right reasons, not the wrong ones.
