It’s that time again for spirit week as we prepare the senior and junior class for their prom.

Thursday, April 10th, we had a spirit day with a fun twist! Seniors represented their future school by wearing their college gear. Whether they’re already committed to a school or still exploring their options, it’s for seniors to show excitement for the next chapter in their life. Let’s see what colleges are mostly represented in our senior class.

“I saw a lot of people representing Appalachian State and NC State,” said senior Hannah Combs. “I wore Meredith College merch.”

Underclassmen were to wear green to show their school pride and support to seniors!

“Spirit week is fun for everyone. The whole school can get together and show their school spirit,” said sophomore Gabriella DiGennaro

Because it’s the seniors last year in high school, a great deal of them dressed up. Even though this was one of the easiest spirit days for underclassmen to take part in and also a great opportunity to come together and support our seniors as they get ready for their prom on Saturday, not many students decided to dress up in our school colors. Spirit days are a good chance to break the regular cycle and routine, and add some excitement to a school day. Why not participate? Students claim they want to do more fun interactive things, but when the time comes the majority of students don’t participate.

“When a lot of people don’t participate it’s not as fun and it discourages people from having fun because they think they are gonna get laughed at.”said Gabriella DiGennaro

“I really love meme day because everyone and I mean EVERYONE does stuff for that,” said sophomore Ierene Espiricueta “and probably throwback day, I love seeing everyone in their 90s fits, but I mostly feel like the school should give out the dates way before, because people don’t have anytime to pick out outfits to go with the days.”

Chazney Williams, Staff Writer

15-year old sophomore, Chazney Williams is currently in her first year of journalism and working as a staff writer. Williams was born in Ash, and started at Jessie Mae Elementary School, but switched to Lincoln Elementary School for first and second grade, where her mom worked as a teacher assistant and teacher, and transferred back to Jessie Mae Elementary when her mom’s teaching position transferred. After high school, She has plans of going to college to study dentistry and get her bachelor’s degree. “I want to be a dental hygienist, because I have always loved going to the dentist and getting my teeth cleaned. Another reason is ever since I was little I’ve always gotten asked ‘have you ever had braces?’ I like the idea of the job and they pay pretty well so why not?” said Williams. Williams hobbies consist of drawing, dancing and also reading. In Middle School she cheered, ran track and participated in the high jump. She tried volleyball but it didn’t stick. She played softball. She said it was a great stress reliever but she couldn’t do lacrosse and softball so she had to choose. She chose lacrosse because the girls were more friendly and it demanded more from her physically. Her tenth grade year she made the dance team and planned to keep doing that until she graduates. Williams would love to get a full ride scholarship that pays for her college experience to help out with her mom. “Writing has never been something I’ve really wanted to do,” said Williams. “But I can’t not do things I dislike all my life. So this year I really want to push myself out of my comfort zone to prepare myself for college.”

La’Kera Jamison, Staff Writer

La’kera Jamison is a current sophomore. This is her first semester in journalism. While still new, the amount of excitement she has for journalism is insane. She joined this class because she enjoys writing and taking photos but also wants to get out of her anti-social era. Jamison is currently in the motion of trying to become an influencer and content creator. She feels journalism is the first step to help her get a visual. “I am very excited to enhance my skills in photography and content creation,” said Jamison. “I think this class will help me get out of my comfort zone and spread my wings when it comes to talking to people I don’t know.” Jamison was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina. She then moved to Brunswick County when she was 7-years-old, leaving behind a lot of good memories in her hometown. Jamison is the oldest of five siblings and the youngest of one. She loves to travel and explore. Jamsion loves to shop and has a bad addiction to buying shoes. She plans to start dressing up more and taking pictures. Jamison is soon to be a brand ambassador for a business located in Indianapolis. She hopes that this works out and she can promote more than one business. Jamsion participated in two sports: basketball and volleyball. She currently has a job working 3 days a week. In her spare time she makes TikToks and hangs with her two best friends and sometimes does hair. She hasn’t yet picked a specific college but she knows she wants to go to a HBCU. She also plans to become a Delta or a Alpha Kappa Alpha. “I have big plans for after high school,” said Jamison. “Even though I am not a hundred percent sure where I want to go, I know for sure that I want to go to college, preferably an HBCU to become an OB/GYN.”
