On Friday, May 9th, the Juniorettes gathered together to host their first color run. The color run was established to give fifty percent of the profits to our local library, Rourk Library, located in Shallotte.
Lots of planning and advertising went into planning this event with posters sent out to the local feeder schools, as well as posted all over social media and West Brunswick itself. The course began at the front of the school near the loop at the football field. It lapped around the Rourk Stadium, around the practice field, through the junior parking lot, and back past the gym lobby doors to get back to the start.
Though registration for the event started at 4:45, the girls were there early setting up the registration booth, hair color table, face painting station, and several color splash areas around the course.
Registration opened up with lots of familiar Trojan faces, such as assistant principal Karla Stanley and coach Tanna Tilley. Lots of young Trojans also joined the event and immediately got to covering their hair in bright colors and getting various animals and designs painted on their faces by some of the juniorettes members.
Right at the 5:00 start time, all the runners lined up on the start line, waited for the countdown, and blew their color poppers. Through the cloud of color, all the runners started the race, some sprinting, others keeping a steady pace, and a few walkers.
People blew through the course, and in a quick six-minute lap was first place finisher Owen Gibeault. Gibeault, along with some other runners opted to run an additional lap or two. In twenty minutes all the participants blew through the finish line, covered in color, slime, and overjoyed smiles.
After everyone finished their lap(s), they came back together to throw additional color, add a few more spots of hairspray, or get touch-ups on their face paint.
Before all the families left, they once more lined up on the start line for a group photo displaying all the color and the immense success from the event.
