The stadium echoed with chants, the cheerleaders’ pom poms glistening to the Friday night lights that beam down on them as the second football game of the season takes place. The Trojans sent the Wolfpack home back to Whiteville with a big win, giving us Trojans the second victory as the season takes off.

With the first day off school starting Monday everyone was excited to finally have some fun this Friday at the second home game of the season. Coming off a big win the week prior to South Brunswick, West fans cheered loudly hoping for another win.

The game started off slow with the first quarter ending 0-0, yet the fans stayed eager and excited with what was soon to come. The second quarter was not much more exciting yet each team collected seven points. In this quarter our new kicker played out, Maddie Richardson and she became not only the first female on the West team but also the first to convert a point as well.

After halftime is where it began to pick up. The cheerleaders did their routine and the band marched away with their new drum major making his first appearance, Senior Charles Sherman. Everyone ran to the concession stand or to the Blondies food truck to get a quick snack before the second half began as well and it was an exciting one.

While the first half started off slow West came out even more eager to win. Scoring nineteen more points while Whiteville was stuck at another seven. Leaving the score in the third quarter West with 26 and Whiteville still behind with 14.

The fourth half is where it all went down though. With Whiteville coming out heated, hoping to make a comeback, yet West eager to finish off this win. Whiteville could only convert another seven points while West converted twelve more leading to over a fifteen point victory to win the game 38-21.

West was thrilled with the win and the student section even attempted to rush the field but did not make it far and was quickly yelled at to get off the field. West is excited to see what is next for the rest of the season and we wish them the best of luck.
