In less than thirty-five days, the very first Agricultural fair is coming to Ash! Since it’s the first of its kind in the area, it’s already sparking excitement. From the welcoming community of Ash to the sweet and classic fair treats we all love, this event is shaping up to be a huge hit.
Maybe you’ve been to a fair before, or maybe this will be your very first one– either way, this is an experience you won’t want to miss. Whether you’re into thrilling rides, fun games or just spending quality time with friends or family, Brunswick County’s first ever agricultural fair has something for everyone. The fair kicks off October 15th at Stump Hill Farms in Ash with entertainment, education and excitement all rolled into one. This first-ever fair is set to be the start of a new tradition in Brunswick county.
“I am excited for the fair to come to Ash,” said junior Irene Espiricueta. “It’s finally going to be a closer fair than the one in Carolina Beach or Myrtle Beach.”
Everyone loves a sweet treat, especially one you don’t have to travel for. Whether old or young, fair foods are nostalgic and tied to childhood memories. With new dishes every year, many people see themselves making it back to the fair just to get a taste of their childhood. The county fair is always creating new combinations and bringing back the originals for the public to try.
“I definitely prefer going to the fair for the food,” said junior Chazney Williams. “I think that it’s so crazy but cool to see what they have.”
However, the county fair doesn’t just give us new snacks, but it also gives us a whole new world of thrills. From high adrenaline and thrill to simple family fun, the fair offers entertainment for everyone with their variety of rides. General entry into the fair costs seven dollars cash or eight dollars with a card, but for unlimited rides and amusement, the purchase of an unlimited ride wristband for 25 dollars is recommended.
“When you spend for the wristband, you’re there for the whole day,” said Espiricueta. “You’re really able to get on as much as you want.”
Each ride offers a different experience, whether it’s watching the sunset from the Ferris wheel to clear your mind or a high speed spin coaster. For many, a visit to the fair is not complete without taking a spin on at least one ride. A five minute moment where you can let go and be yourself without any judgement and create memories with friends and family that will last a lifetime.
“I like going for the rides,” said health science teacher Jenny Rohr. “My favorite is the pirate ship, but if you’re riding, it is a must to be in the very back with your hands up.”
This year, the new agricultural fair is coming with a new ride that’s inspired by the mighty Greek god that we all know and love, Zeus! This attraction will allow everyone to have an electric experience filled with laughter and fun. If you aren’t a fan of thrill, that’s no problem! From animal exhibits to live entertainment, the county fair provides a large range of amusement for the whole family. Many believe that fair games are rigged and often walk right past them when attending the fair.
“I don’t think spending money on the games are worth it,” said junior Jonah Hewett. “I feel like they are all rigged.”
However, they will always catch the youthful eye with the excitement of the challenge and the immediate gifting of a prize that they will always cherish. This year, the fair isn’t just going to be about rides and games, as they are providing the community with three different shows on one stage. These shows include a comedy magic show, an education program, and a Survivor Family Game Show.
Now that you know everything about the snacks and thrills, you can’t forget the most important part– the community that connects it all: Ash, North Carolina.
“I’ve known the place for a long time,” said junior Aubrey Brown. “I used to work there and i’m excited to see what it’s going to look like.”
Ash, a community known for its peaceful rural identity, brings both beauty and peace to coastal North Carolina. Ash may be a small community, but it’s one that’s full of heart. Known for its friendly faces and welcoming spirit, hosting the first ever agricultural fair here feels just right. Ash represents Brunswick county well, with hardworking families and strong ties to agriculture. This fair won’t just be about the food and rides, it’s about showing the pride of Ash and the people who call it home.
If you’ve ever been to Ash, you know it’s peaceful and also perfect for those looking for a quiet home. Along with the peace and quiet, you also have access to nature sights all around the area. Ash is known for its hiking trails, carnivorous plants and orchids.
If you’re not convinced to go by now, I know I sure am. Nothing beats the sweet joy of a county fair that creates memories you never forget.
Your peers say it best: the fair is the place to be on a cozy October day. And truly, there couldn’t be a better place to host it than right here in Brunswick county. From October 15th-19th, you’ll find all your favorite fair foods, exciting new rides and plenty of community spirit at the very first agricultural fair.
It may just be the biggest event of the year for our not-so-small-anymore sweet ol’ Brunswick County. Clear your schedules, save the date and don’t forget to bring a cozy sweater. The October air might be a tad chilly, but the fair will be full of warmth and excitement. The days are creeping up fast, and before you know it, the fair will be here; We hope to see you all there!
“I am really excited for the fair because I love anything where I don’t have to drive hours to go to something fun,” said career development coordinator Kari Babson. “They’re going to have the agricultural shows, the live entertainment, animal exhibits and just different ways for us to hang out together here in Brunswick County.”
