On Thursday, September 18th, the West Brunswick Junior Varsity Volleyball team played the Laney Buccaneers. This is their second time playing them this season. The Trojans came in ready for the court. With years of rivalry, the teams are face-to-face practicing, ready for the game.
Having lost to them the previous match on their territory, the Trojans are still ready to start off strong. Starting off the match, Laney has the first hit. Sophomore Tameya Thomas gets the first point of the game against Laney. This gives the Trojans a solid start, giving them the motivation they need for this match. You can feel the determination in the room, each set coming with power and hard work. With only ten minutes into the game, the score is 9-12.
As the buzzer beeps, the first set ends: a Trojan loss of 14-25. The Trojans huddle, talking about the game and what they need to do as they hope for a better second set. As they are together, Coach Olivia Scott speaks to them to motivate the team.
Starting off the second set, freshman Paislee Wilson hits it over the net and gets the first point. The score stays close and the Trojans are hungry for the win. You can feel the energy in the court. The Trojans are picking up their pace, but it’s a tough match. With a minute break, both teams huddle once more. Coach Scott gives a pep talk, hyping up the girls and discussing strategies. With four points separating them, the Buccaneers are in the lead.
The court is loud, and the Buccaneers are on a hot streak, but Trojans haven’t given up. They keep the energy going, shouting loudly and trying to clearly communicate. Though they their best to get a comeback, the game ends with Laney’s win, 25-17. It was a tough game, but both teams fought till the end, trying their hardest to get the win.
