On Thursday, September 18th, the West Brunswick Women’s tennis team faced a challenging match as they went up against a strong team, Laney. Despite giving their best effort and having positive attitudes, the Trojans were unable to get a win, as they fell short in both their single and double sets.
The sun shined down and anticipation filled the air at the West Brunswick tennis courts as the players warmed up. High spirits filled the crowds as the lady Trojans went onto the courts at three in order to prepare for their competitive match at four. The first serve approached in the singles match, where the ladies were able to show off their one-on-one skills. Representing the team were the top six players, Finn Gorritz, Kimberly Bart, Paige Levine, Olivia Reme, Bailey Lamonica, and Angelo Reynold. They each put their best foot forward in each set, and while each player was determined to win, Laney’s team proved to be tough opponents, ultimately winning all the single sets.
However, the match didn’t end there as the doubles matches creeped up. The pairs, Kimberly Bart and Finn Gorritz, Paige Levine and Bailey Lamonica, and Olivia Reme and Olivia Schuart, all went to court ready to use their teamwork to secure a win against the Laney girls. They worked diligently, but once again, Laney proved that they were solid components as the West ladies lost all their double sets
“Laney is always tough for us,” said senior Paige Levine. “I’m not too upset about it, though. We’ve already heard from multiple coaches about how much our team has improved from last year. I’m happy.”
While the scores did not represent the Trojans hard work and effort, the ladies put all their energy into these sets and have grown so much as a team this season. They walked away with their heads held high, and with a positive outlook on their scores. This match should not be seen as a loss, but instead an opportunity to grow and work harder to come back stronger for their upcoming matches.
