With the NFL draft a little over a week away, many teams are trying to figure out who they are going to draft in the first round. While not all legends are drafted in the first round, this is the most important round of the draft because the first round is where you draft players that you believe will change your franchise; it is also where careers are made and broken. The draft is one of the most exciting times in the NFL. It is when teams are full of optimism and hope for the new season and when the biggest trades happen. Here is my mock draft for the first round.
- Cleveland Browns: Sam Darnold ,QB, USC: Even with the addition of Tyrod Taylor the Browns still need a quarterback of the future and Sam Darnold is the most promising prospect at QB in this draft.
- New York Giants:Saquon Barkley ,HB, Penn State: With David Gettleman saying he wants a future hall of famer and the Giants desperately needing a HB, I think they draft Barkley and draft Manning’s successor next year.
- New York Jets:Josh Rosen ,QB, UCLA: Even with the addition of Teddy Bridgewater in the offseason, I still believe the Jets draft their guy in Rosen.
- Cleveland Browns: Bradley Chubb ,Edge, NC State: Chubb is just too good of a talent for the Browns to pass on with them needing another edge rusher to pair with Myles Garrett.
- Buffalo BIlls:Josh Allen ,QB, Wyoming (Projected trade with Broncos):The Bills deal their two first round picks to move up and draft a QB who is built to throw in any conditions Buffalo has to offer.
- Indianapolis Colts:Quenton Nelson ,G, Notre Dame: With Andrew Luck’s health issue the Colts draft a man that will certainly keep Luck upright in the pocket.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers:Derwin James ,S, Florida St.:The Buccaneers are in need of a playmaker like James who is a physical safety with cornerback skills.
- Chicago Bears:Denzel Ward ,CB, Ohio St:The Bears bulk up the secondary even more and pair Ward with Kyle Fuller.
- San Francisco 49ers:Marcus Davenport ,Edge, Texas-San Antonio:The 49ers are in desperate need of a pass rusher, and Davenport fits their needs.
- Oakland Raiders:Tremaine Edmunds ,ILB, Virginia Tech: The Raiders improve their defense and add arguably the best linebacker in this draft.
- Miami Dolphins:Baker Mayfield ,QB, Oklahoma
- Denver Broncos:Roquan Smith ,OLB, Georgia (Projected trade with Bills)
- Washington Redskins:Vita Vea ,DT, Washington
- Green Bay Packers:Minkah Fitzpatrick ,S, Alabama
- Arizona Cardinals:Calvin RIdley ,WR ,Alabama
- Baltimore Ravens:Hayden Hurst ,TE, South Carolina
- Los Angeles Chargers:Da’ron Payne ,DT ,Alabama
- Seattle Seahawks:Harold Laundry ,Edge, Boston College
- Dallas Cowboys:Courtland Sutton ,WR, SMU
- Detroit Lions:Darius Guice ,HB, LSU
