Have you ever seen music used as a tool to slay demons? In the animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters; music becomes a powerful tool in the battle against evil. K-Pop Demon Hunters has received widespread acclaim for its animation, music, voice acting and story. The film has also been praised for its representation of Korean culture and its exploration of themes, such as identity, community, and the power of music.
The film revolves around three K-pop idols who lead double lives as demon hunters tasked with protecting their fans from supernatural threats. With their singing voices, they create a magical barrier against demons, known as the Honmoon. However, their lives are turned upside down when they encounter the Saja Boys, a rival boy band secretly composed of demons. The Saja Boys aim to weaken the Honmoon by stealing fans’ souls, allowing demons to invade the human world.
This movie isn’t just a fun movie to watch, despite it involving singing and slaying demons; you can learn several lessons from it. One can learn to build teamwork with people. In the movie, when the K-pop idols had a misunderstanding after they realised that Rumi was a hunter and at the same time a demon, they weren’t able to fight the demons and their god. But after Rumi took the lead and they all followed up, they were able to destroy the demon god. This was because they came together as a team which led to their success.
You can also learn to be confident in yourself after watching this movie. Come to think of it, if the three Kpop idols; Rumi, Zoey and Mira didn’t have confidence in themselves, would they be able to fight the demons? After Saja boys appeared from nowhere and became very popular trying to win all Huntrix’s fans, they never became afraid. Instead, they rose up to work harder. They build confidence in their abilities to fight against demons with their voices.
“Kpop demon hunters has made me understand that you are loved no matter who you are,” said sophomore Landon Marcono. “After watching Kpop demon hunters, I feel loved by everyone even with my situation.”
While this movie has been praised in the United State of America and liked by many people, kids, teenagers and adults, it hasn’t made significant impacts in some countries yet, likely due to limited exposure, political issues and cultural differences, causing lack of interest or limited distribution by the platform.
This film is also deeply rooted in Korean traditions, which might not resonate as strongly with audiences in cultures that do not have similar cultural foundations. Also, in countries where Netflix is not officially available, people might resort to illegal streaming or piracy, which can affect the film’s official release in those regions.
For instance, China has some restrictions on content regulations, and Netflix content may not be readily available or might be subject to censorship.
In conclusion, animation has lots of moral lessons to teach both adults and kids. They can change your behaviour in a positive way which will be a good benefit to society.
“I think it’s really a really good movie”, said Junior Charlotte Guy; “and I think it has a really good message, not just for kids, but for everyone”.
