On October 11, 2025, the homecoming football game was definitely one to remember. Unfortunately, not all homecoming games end in victory, as was the case with the Trojans. The loss not only affected the players and coaches, but also left a sad mood among the fans.
This year’s homecoming court at West Brunswick High School was made up of a group of students who were nominated by their classmates. The senior court included the following students: Caleb Gerald, Teagan Cossey, Maddie Richardson, Nicholas Tantillo, Nick Brown, Rowan Pruitt, Jordan Thomas, Kailyn Gore, Copper Willson, Faith McBryde, Jasmine Roberts and Chayton Cheers.
As halftime dawned, it was time to crown the homecoming king and queen as well as the prince and princess. As the court held their breath in anticipation, the winners were announced: Chayton Cheers was Homecoming King and Kailyn Gore was Homecoming Queen. As for the Prince and Princess, juniors Garrison Abbott and Evagelia Stathos took their crowns.
As the game went on, it became clear that it was going to be a tough one. The players gave it their all, showing some impressive skill and determination on the field. However, as the cheers turned to moans of disappointment and the final whistle blew, their defeat was confirmed. Despite their best efforts, our team struggled to keep up with New Hanover’s offense, the score was 13 to 7– New Hanover was winning. The ball was intercepted by Jamon (Mondo) Holmes, changing the direction of the game. The Trojans went in for a rushing touchdown, with Marzell Stanley giving West a 14- 13 lead. Fans were hyped, though the pace of the game slowed down. The Trojans were still fighting for a win.
Looking back on the homecoming game, it is clear that the defeat served as a learning opportunity for the team and the entire school community. The loss may have been a little upsetting, but it was not the end of the road for the team. It was a chance to reflect, regroup and come back stronger for their last two games. The loss at the homecoming game was just another step in their journey to success and growth.
