On Thursday, September 25, the junior varsity boy’s soccer team faced off against the Topsail Pirates in an away match that ended in a narrow 1-0 loss for the Trojans. After a long hour-long bus ride, the Trojans had only a few minutes to stretch and warm up before kickoff.Despite the quicker preparation, the team came together for their traditional pre-game huddle and prayer before the starting eleven took the field, ready to compete.
The first 20 minutes of the game started off slowly for both sides. The pirates controlled most of the possession early on, keeping the Trojans on their toes. West Brunswick struggled to find their rhythm, spending much of the opening stretch chasing the ball and trying to create opportunities to gain control.Until the last 10 minutes of the first half the Trojans made a terrible tackle inside the 18 yard box giving the pirates a penalty a big chance to get the pirates a lead to go up, but freshman goalkeeper making a spectacular save keeping the game tied 0-0, till the end of the first the first half.
When the referee blew the whistle for halftime both of the varsity teams went on the field to shoot and pass the ball around with their teammates getting ready for the varsity game. During half time coach Elijah Berkemeyer gave a very motivational speech after a slow start for his players.
The start of the second half for the Trojans started off a little stronger, having most of the possession passing the ball up and down the field for the first 15 minutes of the game. Despite then having most of the possession the Trojans could not find a way to put it in the back of the net against their opponent.
Unfortunately during the 20th minute of the Trojans defense made another poor tackle in side the 18 yard box giving the pirates a second penalty but this time the Trojan goalkeeper couldn’t make the save, after conceding the goal the Trojans worked hard trying to score but couldn’t get the job done losing to the pirates 1-0.
