Ringing In The New Year!

Dec 27, 2018

Now that 2018 is coming to a close, we can all put our best foot forward and walk into 2019 with a clean slate and hope for new beginnings.

As we look back onto 2018, it would be dishonest to deem this year mundane when it comes to the major events of these 365 days. If you read the news, scrolled through social media, or basically didn’t live under a rock, you probably got whiplash from all of the events that took place this year.

Whether you’re spending NYE solo or with family and friends, music is a very essential part of ringing in the new year. Maybe you want to put on some feel-good beats to start the year off on a high note, or maybe you love the nostalgic vibes of 2018’s chart toppers. Regardless of your interpretation of how to kick off 2019, we can all agree that 2018 had lots of great new music.

For “Rockstar” singer Post Malone, 2018 brought lots of success that landed many of his songs on top of the charts. Not only was Post Malone a regular in the top of the charts, but his song “Sunflower” was also specifically written for, and is included in the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack.

Another artist who practically ran the charts is “New Rules” singer, Dua Lipa. “New Rules” was basically summer 2018’s anthem, as it tied the record for longest run on Billboard’s pop song chart with a whopping 41 Weeks.

This year, we were graced with tons of new music from incredible artists in every genre imaginable. Although Canadian rapper Drake was Spotify’s most streamed artist, he is followed by Post Malone, XXXTentacion, J Balvin, and Ed Sheeran. Despite the lack of female artists in Spotify’s top 5, Ariana Grande ranks first globally among female artists. The “Thank U, Next” singer, Ariana Grande, is followed in Spotify’s most streamed by Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Taylor Swift, and Camila Cabello.

Although we are closing out 2018, we will always have the moments, movies, and music of this memorable and monumental year. Our Spotify Playlist “Happy New Year!” is a celebration and reminder of the milestones we achieved, the artists we’ve lost, and the memories we have made this year. Happy New Year!
