The wrestling season has arrived and with it comes a new coach and trials for our West  Wrestling team. The biggest problem for the team this year is the loss of seniors such as Jacary Bethel and Lincoln Smith, both of which graduated last year.

Junior Alex Williams has a positive outlook for the season, however, he felt that the team would go to states this year.

“I expect the Freshman to get a feel of wrestling and probably next year actually go to state duals and place.”

Williams did not appear at states last year but is dedicated to making it there this year.

“I think I’m gonna go to states this year. Probably next year I know I’m gonna place in states.” He has also been preparing for the season saying, ”I been cutting weight, I’ve been trying to staying weight,” Williams also added, ”Conditioning is a key to wrestling, you have to stay on point.”

Sae-Vyon McCray thinks with the seniors leaving this year is his time to shine,”It should be my turn to stand out for the team,” and added, ”I been told plenty of times that I got to help carry out the team, and it’s my turn to be a leader now.”

Matthew Smith said,”We are going to win every match. Everyone is going to go undefeated. Nothing but shutouts all around.”
