Up to Par: Golf Preview

Golf is debated as being a sport of finesse, while some claim it is a sport with little physical obstacles and accomplishments. It is one of the most mentally challenging sports. The mental fortitude you must possess to sink a match-winning putt on the 18th green involves high concentration and extreme artistry.

“It’s not a very physical sport but it’s one of the hardest to learn,” said Berry Jarvis, Senior on the Golf team.

Many expected the team to take a hit after losing their best player Spencer Faircloth but have recently been filled with optimism as young and promising Ryan Jahr has joined the team.

“It’s tough, and I have to put in work, but I’m willing to do that”, said Ryan.

The short game is an asset to scoring low in golf. Most points are attributed to how the game is played within 50 yards closest to the hole.

Ryan Jahr finds his short game favorable. This is valuable to the team because it is a hard skill that many teams work hard to find.

Each team member is hoping to improve their skills and enjoy learning and growing in the sport and in relationships.

“The challenge of playing, and the difficult shots,” said James Erwin, are what gives him the drive to play.

Every player intends on improving and looks forward to a challenging and good season.
