Anyhla Hammond, Staff Writer

Anyhla Hammond is a 16-year-old starting her sophomore year off with the West Wind. Hammond decided to join the program because she has a little experience from her previous school and wants to get more into interviewing people. Even though she’s still trying to get used to the class, she’s having a great time with all the new people she’s getting to know.

Hammond is the middle child out of her siblings. She has two brothers and one sister. Hammond was born and raised in Shallotte, North Carolina. She enjoys being by herself, making money, and staying home in bed all day. Usually during her free time or for fun, you can find her sleeping or binge-watching Netflix shows. Fun fact about her, she was born in the back of an ambulance truck at the Grissettown McDonald’s.

“I’ve been fast since birth, and I think that’s why I picked up running,” said Hammond. “I’ve been running track since the 5th grade, and I would like to continue my running career in college.”

Hammond is very passionate about track and field. In fact, she says her whole world revolves around the sport. Her favorite events in track and field are the 100, 4×100, and 200 meter. Other than track, her world also revolves around her family.

“I’m basically the second mom of the family,” said Hammond. “I’m always home taking care of my other siblings.”

Even though Hammond has her life to live, she’s always gonna be around to help out her mom whenever she needs it. She cares deeply about her family, especially her sister.

“After high school I want to go to college for track and field and maybe even try and make it to the Olympics, and if that doesn’t end up working out, I would want to go to school to learn to become a chiropractor and maybe even own my own business,” said Hammond. “I’m not sure what college I would like to go to yet, but sooner or later you will see me on TV breaking track world records.”
