Kayley Arevalo

Kayley Arevalo, Editor in Chief

Kayley Arevalo is a 17-year-old senior, currently in her 5th semester of journalism. Arevalo was born here in Shallotte, North Carolina where she grew up and spent most of her life. She spends her free time either baking or hanging out with her friends.

“One of my favorite things to do is bake,” said Arevalo. “I love baking because it’s never boring, you’re always learning new recipes and techniques.”

Arevalo was introduced to the West Wind by her sister Angela, class of 2019. Arevalo’s sister was editor-in-chief for The West Wind her senior year and took the class a total of six semesters. Kayley is following in her sister’s footsteps, working to be a great student journalist.

“I like creating video packages because you get to put a face to the different stories and experiences,” said Arevalo. “Also I like Mrs. Saunders, so that helped for why I joined the class.”

Arevalo’s  future plans are to go to a four-year university; although there are no clear options of which school she wants to go to, Arevalo wants to have a career in business.

“I think this class is really fun,” said Arevalo. “We get to be ourselves without judgment and that’s what makes it so fun.”
