Lonna Ward is a sophomore at West Brunswick High School. This will be Ward’s first Semester in the West Wind. Ward spends her time playing video games, and on some days you can even find her playing soccer. Ward hasn’t always been a resident of Brunswick County, she actually grew up in a small town near Whiteville.
“I was born in Wilmington but I grew up in Old Dock,” said Ward. “We had to drive 15 minutes just to get gas, and it was kind of like you knew everybody and you were related to everybody type of town”.
Ward’s hope for the future is big, and she’s already got plans to achieve those goals. Ward hopes to attend North Carolina State University once she graduates.
“I don’t know what I want to be in the future but it’s going to be something either medical or like engineering,” said Ward.
Ward is very driven and is taking all honors classes to boost her GPA so she can improve her chances of getting into her dream school. Ward’s interest in the West Wind was partly due to Ward’s older sister who was a former West Wind member and an alumna of West Brunswick High School.
“My sister took it, Kayla Ward, and she said it was really fun and that she wanted me to take journalism,” said Ward.
Ward was also interested in having conversations with people to do her work instead of the typical reading and sitting down work.
“I also enjoy interviewing people and writing stories,” said Ward.
