Riley Bergeron was born in Greensboro, NC, with her family and then made her way to Brunswick County during her middle school years. Bergeron is a 17-year-old senior student-athlete who has participated in sports for most of her life, including eleven years of gymnastics, four years of travel, and school volleyball, and spent a handful of years playing soccer. Bergeron enjoys time on the beach, reading at her river spot during Sunset Beach, and playing volleyball.

“I’ve always been interested in criminal justice and the way the mind works since I was little, and I always dreamed of wanting to go into something related to that,” said Bergeron.

Bergeron hopes to go to college to major in psychology and criminology. She believes that it is important to learn and understand the way people are and all the “whys” behind their actions in order to help them and understand them as a person. Bergeron says her obsession with this came from her younger years watching dozens of crime shows.

“I enjoy reading and writing, so I feel that journalism will not only help me with my reading and writing skills but will help me become more active in the school community in a more fun way than other classes would,” said Bergeron.

Since Bergeron is in her senior year of high school, she’s trying to soak it all in every way possible. She decided to take a chance with journalism this semester, so she can take advantage of more opportunities like reaching out to more people, stepping outside of her comfort zone, and learning more things in a fun, exciting way.

“I feel like being a senior this year is very important to me because it is my last year in the same place with everyone before we all move away because its the end of an era for all of us,” said Bergeron.
