Rivers Hicks, Staff Writer
Rivers Hicks is a sophomore born in Laurinburg, North Carolina. This is her second semester in the West Wind. Hicks was raised in Southern Pines but moved just before her freshman year. While she enjoys her new life in Ocean Isle Beach with her family, she enjoys visiting her hometown and childhood friends.
In her free time, Hicks enjoys going to the beach, spending time with friends, and playing soccer. Hicks began playing soccer at age 11 and continues her athletic career as a part of the Women’s Soccer Team while also playing club soccer. Excited to further engage in her new school, she expressed interest in the West Wind after seeing some promotional videos online.
“I had seen some TikToks and thought it would be fun to be in the class,” said Hicks. “The photography also seemed interesting.”
Along with her interest in photography, Hicks also hopes to improve her writing skills as the semester continues. Hicks plans to graduate from West, eventually go to Clemson University, and become a cardiologist.
“Helping people and children is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Hicks. “I realized I wanted to enter cardiology when I started having my own problems with my heart. I don’t know what I would do without the people that helped me, and I want to help people with the same problems.”
