Sadie Jones, Broadcast Director
Sadie Jones is a seventeen-year-old senior who was raised in Cherry Grove, SC. Jones moved to Brunswick County in the 5th grade. This is her second semester in the journalism program. Jones was initially inspired by the West Wind social media accounts and is now the broadcast director.
“ This class has taught me so much, and I’ve learned so much about my own creativity here,” said Jones. “ I always feel welcome, and it’s honestly like one big family.”
Jones has been playing soccer since she was five years old and has been a captain on the women’s varsity soccer team for the last two years. During her school’s off-season, she plays for a travel team in Wilmington–she has been with them for seven years. Jones drives an hour to practice three times a week and has games almost every weekend.
“Soccer has always been a big part of my life,” said Jones. “It’s given me so many fun opportunities and some amazing friends.”
Jones loves listening to music or audiobooks on her way to practice. Some of her favorite artists are Megan Moroney, Taylor Swift, and Chris Stapleton. Her favorite books are anything romantic. She loves watching movies, her favorite film of all time is “Mamma Mia.” Outside of soccer, Jones enjoys shopping and hanging out with her friends.
“I’ve already spent all of the money I made this summer,” said Jones. “ I am a very impulsive buyer, it’s so easy now with Apple Pay.”
Jones plans on attending a 4-year university in North Carolina, hopefully continuing her soccer career. She hopes to one day become a physical therapist, specializing in sports medicine. Sports have always been a safe space for her, and she hopes to impact athletes in a positive way.
“I really can’t imagine my life without any sports in it,” said Jones. “It’s something I’ve always been passionate about.”
