Sage Van Winkle, staff writer
Sage Van Winkle is a fifteen year-old sophomore at West Brunswick Highschool, and this is her first semester in the West Wind. She was born and raised in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. She has one older brother, four dogs, and one cat.
“I wanted to join journalism because I thought it would be a good class for me,” said Van Winkle. “Reading and writing has always been something that I have enjoyed, so journalism sounded perfect for me,” says Van Winkle.
In her free time, Sage likes to paint and go thrifting with her friends. She loves spending time camping with her mom and dogs. Sage and her Aunt are pen pal’s, so she spends a lot of time writing to her aswell.
She was inspired to join journalism because she has always enjoyed writing essays keeping up with the news, so this class seemed perfect.
After high school, Sage wants to do 2 years at Brunswick Community College and then finish at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She is still unsure of what she wants to study after high school.
“Art is something that I’ve always thought was fun, so it would be nice to include it someplace in my future,” says Van Winkle.
