Taylor Hughes, Staff Writer
Taylor Hughes is a 15-year-old sophomore in her second semester in Journalism. While still learning new things in the class, her passion for it is growing. Hughes was born and raised in Ash, North Carolina.
In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with friends at the beach and going shopping. Hughes is also dedicated to both of her varsity sports, tennis and cheerleading. While being a student-athlete, she has taken on responsibilities throughout four separate clubs: FCA, SGA, HOSA, and Key Club. While only in her second year of high school she has quickly made a name for herself being elected as her class president of SGA and vice president of HOSA.
“I try to put my academics and extracurriculars first,” said Hughes. “Being elected as president of SGA, and vice president of HOSA really helped me to reach those goals of being involved and committed in school.”
Hughes has big plans after high school and hopes to receive a master’s degree and become a Nurse Practitioner and then later specialize in the field of pediatric neurology.
Her interest in joining the West Wind was sparked through conversations among her peers. Many of Hughes’ friends spoke highly of the teacher Anna Saunders and the West Wind in general.
“After hearing about journalism, I quickly realized it was something I’d be interested in, and I love it,” said Hughes.
