On Friday, September 6th, West Brunswick’s Varsity football team stepped out onto their home turf to face the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs. With an already rough start to the season for both teams, it was an even playing field. The stadium filled with a sea of red, white, and blue as everyone in attendance was celebrating the Patriotic theme night. Everyone watched as the teams took to the field to warm up.
At 7:00, the National Anthem played. Everyone silenced as hands were placed over their hearts to show respect to Old Glory. The cheering took place as the coin toss was won by West giving them the opportunity to kick first.
Within the first quarter, the Chiefs scored the first touchdown of the night. Giving their side hope as the Trojans were taken down the previous year by the Chiefs, 35-7.
After the second quarter, and great performances by the dance team and band, the Trojans take the field with new intensity. They lead the Chiefs 16-7.
Throughout the game, senior Javonta Daniels rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns. The game takes a twist when the Chiefs take the lead again in the forth quarter with a score of 27-23. Both teams battled throughout the game keeping the score close. In the last few minutes, West came back scoring a Touchdown, kicking for the extra point, and securing a safety. Trojans win the game with a score of 32-27.
Come out and support the Trojans for the next home game on Friday 9/27 as they face the Ashley Screaming Eagles.
