On Monday, September 30th, West Brunswick’s Varsity Football team stepped out again onto their home turf to face the Ashley Screaming Eagles. The stadium filled with fans dressed in cowboy boots and hats for the western themed night. Everyone waited and watched as both teams warmed up for their 6:30 kickoff.
At 6:30, we placed our hands over our hearts for the National Anthem in anticipation of the first play. Excited fans from both sides cheered as football players ran onto the field. The team captains proceeded with a coin toss win for the Trojans.
Ashley was quick to take the lead in the first quarter with a starting score of 0-7. Giving their side hope and momentum for the rest of the quarter, the Eagles stay in the lead.
After the second quarter, the score doubles for the Eagles, 0-14. The Eagles go into halftime strong, with no points on the board for the Trojans. The dance team and marching band performed outstanding performances on the field before the 3rd quarter began.
Scoring again in the third quarter, The Eagles bring their winning score up, 0-21. Throughout the third quarter the Trojans scored, giving them their first points on the board for the night, 3-21. With fans on edge, things look up in the 4th quarter when a 51-yard touchdown is scored by number 32, Javonta Daniels. Although the Trojans, scored six they did not convert on the 2pt conversion.
The close of fourth quarter brought an unfortunate end for the Trojans. The final game score was 9-28. West came up short in the end, but it was in no way from lack of effort. The players gave their heart and skill within every play made. Next home game is this coming Friday, 10/4 against the Hoggard Vikings. Come out dressed for our ‘Pink Out’ themed night.
Go Trojans!
