As we kick off a new school year, we are also welcoming an array of new staff that comes with it.
Why it Matters: Every school year brings transitions but having brand new teachers puts a spin on the regular routine. Learning about these new educators will not only make it easier for students to connect with them, but it also allows them to put their image out into the school.
Between the Lines: Using a list shared by Principal Scott Dalton, we will delve deeper into who these fresh teachers are.
- We’ve listed the teachers alphabetically by first name
- What area they teach in
- Information includes:
- Why they started teaching
- Why they chose West Brunswick
- What they like to do on their free time
- What their most excited for in this school year
Ann Torgerson
Exceptional Children’s Program
“Mrs. T” is from San Diego where she formerly taught high school and she moved to Brunswick County about a year ago. Right after she moved here she went to Leland where she taught middle school.
- She loved her time with Leland middle, but she said “her niche is working with high school student.”
- West Brunswick is also a lot closer to where she lives at present so it’s a win for everyone
Darcy Predieri
Social Studies
Darcie Predieri is a former student teacher at West Brunswick High School as an understudy to teacher Kourtney Saavedra. She is most looking forward to being part of the West community, and in her free time she likes to:
- Hang out with her family
- Play tennis
- Bake
- Play video games such as Fortnite and Stardew Valley
Donnie Johnson
Social Studies
Johnson, as a Calabash native, is enjoying the shorter commute time to West compared to North Brunswick, where he previously worked. He is excited this year to teach his social studies class and help coach the football team.
Doug Feig
Chorus
As a student himself, Feig had wonderful teaching experiences which inspired him to become a music teacher. He wishes to pass on the information and passion to educate that he received as a child.
“I had great teachers influence me,” Feig said.
Lilliana Comparone
English
Comparone is most excited to meet all her students this year and work with the amazing staff. She enjoys long distance running in her free time along with reading. A variety of genres that she delves in are:
- Dystopian
- Fantasy
- Romance
Shelby Yardley
Exceptional Children’s Program
Yardley has always wanted to help students learn through thick and thin, and she believes that she really has a place here at West Brunswick.
“I’m most excited for all of the growth from students this school year,” said Yardley.
Chief Travis Gause
JROTC
Gause is originally from right here in Brunswick County although he grew up in Fayetteville, NC. He’s excited to connect with the cadets and see them grow. He wishes to create more of a family atmosphere at West Brunswick for JROTC.
Looking to the Future: As the school year marches on so do the students and staff. While time flies, these teachers for the moment will stay the same.
