On March 12th our Trojans had a close game against Carolina Forest. The game took place at home on a cold wednesday evening.
The tension in the field was palpable in the first and second innings with both teams continuously not getting any runs, Leaving our team’s baseball fans confused. Carolina Forest took an early front seat with them gaining two runs on us during the third inning. With their great pitching and out fielding. The teams continued to go back and forth until the fourth inning. It was visible our boys felt the heat. Their first pitch was a fastball high and tight; the Panthers answered back with sound barrier breaking batting skills. West was only able to score one run on the board. Carolina forest took back the next inning.
As soon as their pitcher stepped on the mound, he took a sign from the catcher then immediately exploded off the mound, winded up his arm, and shot a fastball right down the middle. Both teams felt the ferocity of the game; the next points were scored in the seventh inning. With West holding down the fort and gaining 2 points. Everyone continued to battle it out until the ninth inning. The shortstop for Carolina, charged for the ball he scooped it up and fired it out to first. The first baseman caught the ball just as our runner crossed the bag. OUT. GAME OVER. The Panthers erupted in celebration as their team came out of the dugout in full speed to hug their teammates. West trudged off our field. With everyone’s shoulders slumped. We fought hard for a comeback, but we came up short.
The main flaw for the West vs Carolina game was the performance of our runners. Four pitchers entered the game, giving up too many walks, and allowing the Panthers to get under our skin. The score was 3-4. Even though we lost, it wasn’t a complete loss, it was still a close game. Our varsity baseball team gained more game knowledge and hopefully more game strategies. Hopefully for their next game, they will come to be better and stronger.
