Unsure on what to wear this year? I got you covered. Let’s go over everything trending by looking at the hallways, fashion runways and everything in between to keep you in style.
Starting on the runways, we’re taking a look at two major brands: Isabel Marant and Tom Ford. This season, Isabel Marant brought us tons of patterns, featuring red plaids, black leather, sheer lace and polka dots. All of these patterns were featured in a mix of sheer tops and shiny beading, achieving an overall effortlessly cool look. Tom Ford featured tons of white and black leathers, textured meshes, color blocking and pastel blues, yellows and lilacs.
“I really like that all of the nineties’ fashion and business casual is coming back into style,” said art teacher Jentry Luse. “It reminds me of when I was in school, and we all dressed like this.”
Moving onto the hallways, we see more examples of a nineties resurface. Seeing a lot of bigger pants, Timberland boots and flip flops paired with jeans (courtesy of the 2000’s) is the most prominent clue that this is the look. It’s becoming more normalized for people to express their aesthetic in an open way.
“I’m honestly so glad flip flops are back into style,” said Rivers Hicks. “People are finally prioritizing their comfort rather than their fashion.”
We are actively seeing the downfall of high brands with big logos, the tired leopard prints, patterned leggings and overly branded and patterned clothing in general. We are seeing minimalist fashion come back to life. A lot of people believe that no matter the item they have in their closet, it will always be back eventually. Fashion trends over the years have constantly been changing with the rise of social media. We’ve seen so many micro-trends and sub-cultures evolve, especially dating back to the 2000’s, during the internet’s peak.
“I’m really happy to see Gen Z express their styles how they wish to,” said art teacher Kenya Antiye-Addy. “Students in high school all have their own style, and it makes me happy to see that.”
If you were unsure on what to wear this season, hopefully you can use these trends. But at the end of the day, it’s important to wear whatever makes you happy.
