Many new teachers that have joined the Trojan Staff this year. With some of our arts and music teachers leaving, new spots and opportunities for newcomers or even a change of scenery from teachers, including theatre with Sarah Epting, and chorus with Megan Pedigo.
Theatre- Sarah Epting
Our new theatre teacher, Sarah Epting is from Montgomery, Alabama but most recently taught at our crosstown rivals South Brunswick High. Epting is still adjusting to the environment, but she is enjoying the time at the school so far.
“All of my classes are huge, the interest in drama club is huge, so it’s just really nice to have so much enthusiasm around in the department,” says Epting. “Its a lot of energy. South had great enthusiasm, but not as many bodies in the room, so it’s just a different feeling.”
Epting has always wanted to teach theatre, especially children’s theatre. It was just a few years ago when she had considered teaching high school theatre.
“Its always been one of my personal dreams to own a children’s theatre and to do plays with youth theatre,” said Epting. “Also doing plays of any sort just to encourage theatre as an art form for generations to come is really inspiring.”
Epting has big plans for the future of West Brunswick’s drama club. They are currently rehearsing for a show they will be putting on in November. Along with in the spring time, a spring musical.
Epting is very excited to be getting settled into West Brunswick and the performing arts community we have here. “I hope to bring more community involvement,” says Epting.
Chorus- Megan Pedigo
We welcome Megan Pedigo as our new chorus teacher. Pedigo is originally from Stafford, Virginia, but then moved to North Carolina in 2019. She was at South Brunswick Middle School before moving to West Brunswick.
“At West, the students that choose to take the course want to be there, while at the middle school it was more of a dumping ground for me,” said Pedigo. In middle school, students are put into elective classes to try them out involuntarily, but in high school, students have a choice, and they have the ability to choose chorus.
Pedigo didn’t always want to teach chorus, but she found a love for it while in college. “I think I have a real passion for what I do,” says Pedigo.
Both teachers are very excited to be part of West Brunswick’s performing arts community, and we are more than happy to welcome them to our school.
