On Friday, October 10th, the week was coming to an end which meant the fun of dressing up for spirit day was almost over. The last theme of the week, “Color Wars” is what it always tends to be on Friday’s before the homecoming game.
Each grade level got a chance to be in unity and match with the rest of their class. Freshman wore white, sophomores were in green, juniors in black, and seniors wore the classic togas.
This theme seemed to have a high number of participants because it was easy for students to find a simpler outfit that didn’t require any extra materials or items to create an outfit.
“I found this theme a lot easier than the others,” said junior Luma Rosa. “it gave everyone more of an equal chance to participate because you didn’t have to go out and buy things, you just wore a single color.”
Each student can dress in a simple color and just be in an average, everyday outfit, but still represent what grade they are in with their classmates.
However, with the togas, a little bit more effort has to be put into creating these outfits. But the seniors don’t mind because they enjoy doing it, and it’s a great way to kick off their last year of high school as well as show their “elevated position” and “high status” just like how the Ancient Roman society did this.
“I enjoyed dressing up in a toga,” said senior Olivia Brown. “Making my toga did take a few tries, but it was worth it.”
The seniors will also get to do their annual walk around the track in their togas showing their pride, just before watching the pep rally.
This themed tradition has been voted in for spirit day for many years and will probably carry on its authenticity and tradition for many more years to come.
In honor of this week coming to an end, the Trojans hope to win their homecoming football game at 6:00 pm, against the New Hanover Wildcats. It would be a great way to end this festive week, as well as a great feeling for the football team.
