Jayla Alejandro, Staff Writer
Sophomore Jayla Alejandro is originally from New York and moved to the coastal area at around 6 years old, where she grew up with her 4 other siblings. This was a notable memory for Alejandro, when she moved to North Carolina in the 4th grade. Alejandro’s favorite place to be is Carrowinds not just for the rides but mainly funnel cake.
“I liked whenever I moved here because I met a lot of new people and good people,” said Alejandro. “I didn’t have a lot of friends in New York, so the moving down here was a good thing for me.”
This is Alejandro’s first year in journalism, and she plans to continue. Her interest in this class consists of learning others’ opinions on different topics and growing within the West Wind team. Though she is unsure what she will do on the West Wind team, she can’t wait to be involved.
In years to come, Alejandro wants to be a lawyer. For now, she plans on attending ECU. One of Alejandro’s favorite topics of discussion is history. She spends a great deal of her time studying the Holocaust. Outside of school, she enjoys going out to eat, amusement parks, and hanging out with friends. A recurring theme that stood out about Alejandro was her optimism for life.
“It may be overwhelming, but you will get through it and not give up,” said Alejandro. “It’s your future in your hands.”
