The atmosphere was electric as spectators were beginning to fill the stands more. Each person excited to watch the girls play against St Paul. The sound of sneakers squeaking on the polished wooden floor and the rhythmic dribble of the ball when they came out for warm ups, set the stage for what promised to be a great game.
The teams both warmed up until it was time to play, while fans wait for tip-off. After warm-ups it was about that time, all that was left was announcing the starting line ups and the national anthem, then it was game on. Starting the game was seniors Brooklyn Coble, Saniya Stanley, Jahyra Mastry, and sophomores Ja’Kya Johnson and Grace Kitchen.
Both teams got on the court ready for tip-off. The whistle blew and the ball flew. St Paul gained first possession, but quickly got it taken away by the Trojans. After going back and fourth the whole first quarter, it ended with St Paul in the lead by a couple of points.
Coming back from the first quarter with a score of 14-9, and St Paul in the lead, the Trojans were determined to finish the first half taking the lead. With neither teams letting up, and going back and fourth all game the match stayed close. Trojans scored 8 points and St Paul scored 10. The second half ended with St Paul keeping the lead with a score of 17-24.
After having a few minutes to communicate, and take a break, both teams came back to the court ready to play. Not trailing too far behind, the Trojans determination to take the lead was clear and not to be taken lightly. The second half began with West getting possession and scoring the first points of the second half. Shaken but not scared, St Paul never let up and continued playing their game. Both teams worked till the buzzer, but the away team took third quarter as well with a lead of 40-23.
With both teams working equally as hard, St Paul took the game and scored 21 points in the fourth quarter while the lady Trojans only scored 14 points. Unfortunately West lost with the score of 39-61 by the end of the game. After the long hard fight they had, it was not taken as a big loss, but only a learning experience and motivation for them to come back better than they did this time.
