On December third the fall semester of the West Wind headed to local Calabash restaurant, The Oyster Rock. They ate yummy food, shared many laughs and reminisced on what a great semester they had.
“It was my first semester in journalism,” said junior Irving Deccena. “I had lots of fun spending time with my friends and learning new things.”
Although a slight change from normally having this celebration at a restaurant right up the street, The Boundary House, we still had such a great time in a newer place. Oyster Rock is known for its festive decorations they have around the holiday.
As we waited for everyone to arrive we chit-chatted, talked about the semester, and played a class favorite game, Wavelength. This game consists of all members but one coming up with a collective number one through ten. After this the one who does not know the number attempts to guess it by asking questions such as an ice cream flavor, movie, or color to help narrow down what number it will be. Playing this game we shared many laughs and learned many things, like how junior Emma Lockner would rate Marvel superhero, Bucky Barns, a three out of ten, which Mrs. Saunders did not agree with and made it hard for her to figure out what the number was.
“Dinner was a lot of fun,” said junior Emma Lockner. “The whole semester was really. Growing as a journalist, as well as making new friends and becoming closer with others this year was great.”
After playing games and sharing laughs the food arrived. From burgers, fish tacos, shrimps and an assortment of many other things everyone enjoyed their meal then finished up and paid. We then headed outside by the fire to take some class pictures and look at the Christmas decorations.
It was then time for ice cream. Those who could headed down the street to the famous Calabash Creamery where they enjoyed shakes, hot chocolate ice cream, and soft serve with tons of toppings.
“I can’t wait to see how next semester and next year go,” said Lockner. “I know the class is going to do some great things and I am excited to be a part of it.”
