On Friday, April 17th, students in EPF and marketing classes took part in the Reality of Money Workshop hosted by State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU). The workshop gave students a chance to see what it’s really like to manage money as an adult.
Each student was given a profile with a job, salary, family situation, and other responsibilities. Then they had to go around to different stations set up in the gym to pay for things like housing, transportation, groceries, childcare, clothing, insurance, and entertainment. Students kept track of their spending while trying to stay within their monthly budget.
The activity helped students realize how expensive everyday life can be and how important budgeting is. Some students found out that even with a good salary, money can go fast once bills and other expenses are added in.
The workshop was a fun way for students to learn real-life money skills outside of the classroom. This helped students better understand financial responsibility and future planning.
