On Saturday March 28th, 2026 the nation joined in on the third No Kings protest. Nine million people engaged, compared to five and seven million people that participated the first and second time.
The No Kings movement is a nonviolent protest that is meant to show the authoritative action and policies happening in the United States under Donald Trump are not right and that in America the power is to the people.
Brunswick County is a major Republican county, with about 62% voting in favor for Donald Trump in the 2024 election, yet there was still a strong show out to the protest in Shallotte.
When walking through the protest you could see people holding witty signs about current events and the administration. You also could hear hundreds of people coming together to fight for a change. From conversations about what is happening, to chants, and people admiring how many people showed out in their small predominantly red town.
Yet, there was also some opposition. Cars drove by with their windows down screaming things such as “Go Trump”, “He’s not a king”, and even foul language. Hand gestures were made and dirty looks were given as well but the protest remained peaceful.
The protest was huge throughout the nation and despite backlash the turnout was undeniable. This is again the third No Kings protest so it makes you wonder – what difference is it making, if any and will more protests of this nature continue?
